TATTOO CARE INSTRUCTIONS
OINTMENTS AND LOTIONS
Apply a SMALL amount of the provided Aquaphor cream 2-3 times a day for the next 3 days. Rub the small amount into your tattoo for about a minute making sure the ointment gets into the tattoo. Remove any excess ointment with a paper towel. Your tattoo should not look shinny. After 3 days STOP using the Aquaphor and switch to an unscented lotion. Apply the lotion in small amounts to your tattoo whenever it feels dry and tight. Again DO NOT use to much lotion.
Wash your tattoo at least once a day with an antibacterial soap. Dial works great. When you are in the shower and done with any shampoos, conditioners, body washes, etc, lightly wash your tattoo with your fingers with the soap. Let your tattoo completely dry before applying any moisturizer to it.
HOT TOWEL COMPRESS
With larger tattoos a hot towel compress will help with swelling and discomfort. Turn your faucet on as hot as it will go and run a paper towel under in. Immediately apply the paper towel to your tattoo and keep it on for 10 minutes. The first couple seconds will sting, but as the towel cools off it helps pull impurities out of your tattoo, making it heal quicker and cleaner. Throw paper towel out after use.
Your tattoo will peel like a sunburn. Do not freak out, your tattoo is not falling off. The peels will hold the color of your tattoo, but it is not harming the piece. Do not pick at these peels because you will pick the ink out. Just let them fall off naturally. Some areas may even scab, do not pick at them.
Your tattoo will be healed in about 2-3 weeks. During this time frame expect discomfort, pain, burning sensation, itching, peeling, the tattoo looking shinny, and possibly feeling the tattoo slightly raised up more than the skin around it.
WHAT NOT TO DO
Do not under any circumstance submerge your tattoo in a pool, hot tub, dish water, the ocean, river, or any other body of water for 2 weeks. Doing so will ruin your tattoo. Do not let your tattoo sit in the sun, tanning bed, or get sun burnt. Doing so will ruin your tattoo. Always wear sun block on your tattoo to avoid fading. Do not let your dog lick your tattoo. Do not pick or scratch at your tattoo.
